What's Healthier: Soy Candles or Beeswax Candles?

Beeswax is created by bees after they consume honey. When used to create products such as candles, this natural wax is highly beneficial. Not only does the aroma create a relaxing and stress-free environment but beeswax candles also help neutralise the area around you. Beeswax candles, on the other hand, are made from pure, eco-friendly beeswax, which is produced by the bees and filtered by the beekeepers. This is a completely natural process that requires no deforestation or disruption of animal habitats.

GMOs and Pesticides are Used

It’s no secret that most soy is altered at a genetic level in order to be resilient. Producers have found a way to stop pests from eating their yields by either altering the bean genetically or heavily spraying it with pesticides. See where we are going with this? People who consume soy products or have candles made of soy wax are heavily exposed to herbicides, pesticides, and glyphosates. Beeswax doesn’t require any harmful substances to turn it into useable products. 

The Production Process is Toxic

Soy candles undergo a chemical process before they reach you. In fact, soy candles need to go through several chemical treatments before they can be formed into candles and sold as such. First off, the soy wax is deodorised and bleached. At that point, the soy wax has a low melting point and needs to have paraffin and stearic acid added to it to form a candle. Next, dyes and fragrances are combined to create scented candles. All steps add toxins to the final product, making it less safe for everyday use.

This is why beeswax candles are all a similar colour and have a scent that’s sweet and pleasant. 

The Burn Isn’t Better

Soy candles also burn differently. The flame of a beeswax candle is easy on the eyes and it produces a warmer light. Not only do soy candles tend to burn for shorter periods of time but the cool tones it produces are harsher on the eyes. The natural flame of the beeswax candles is pleasant to the eyes, warm-coloured, which is naturally the same spectrum of the sun. This is why beeswax candles help calm you.

Soy candles are also not as dense as beeswax candles, which means the candle burns away much quicker. Many soy candles are mixed with paraffin to extend scent throw and assist with glass adhesion, which also adds to burning speed.
